Not familier with Avast, but scanned my computer here, ran the program several times. And big companies earn that trust be continually delivering tried and tested product that people enjoy "over periods of time" with "repeating" success. besides trust needs to be earned over time. | | short patch which has only 1 note on it and replaces reactivedrop.exe file.Īmong many people sometimes there has to be someone to voice out concerns in order to ensure continued safety of the community, blind trust is not really the best solution. Just to add more info/data onto the matter, this detection only started occuring after yesterday's Honestly I dont really want to cause an uproar but ignorance can be a problem, I personally would be very worried if 6000+ would willingly dismiss a potential threat and allow their systems to get infected if by some rare off-chance it was indeed a real threat (not saying that it is). If it was a real thing, an actual threat, you would think people would be causing an uproar. Originally posted by EliteSarge:I see your point but still, theres like 6000+ people playing and this is the first time I'm seeing this kind of thing brought up. Of course I do not accuse the developers of a malware threat being knowingly included in their product but it is better to be careful/safe than sorry is what my experience over many years have proven, more analysis on the file and clarification would be nice to give peace of mind. it is yet to be deterined if that behaviour is safe or not but I have yet to see any source engine games so far original Alien Swarm included that actually required/depended on such functionality and that is what makes this a little bit suspicious to me. For example injecting memory and data to other files outside the program (this could potentially be used to even modify your OS files/running memory which can be dangerous).Īnd the fact that reactivedrop.exe was detected to execute malware-like functions when being run is unlikely to be just a fake detection, it in fact definetly picked up behaviour that "did" happen. blablabla That is incorrect, avast among very few other antivirus programs feature "behaviour analysis" which monitors what executables do "live" and detects "malware-like behaviour" and that is what IDP.Generic is. Please keep in mind that with this information collected all together I even my self would still not consider this as proof that the game is infected. Update on || when |Reactivedrop.exe| file was replaced and launching the game afterwards triggered AVAST bahaviour shield to pick up the dll-injection.ĮDIT: Added a link for easy viewing of |Reactivedrop.exe| file scan on website |VirusTotal| website owned by google: The "suspected" time & date when virus was "potentially" introduced: The functionality I am talking about here in question is "dll-injection" as that is the sort of thing that AVAST behaviour shield is designed to detect, it only happens when the software in question is running.įor me this is reason enough to be concerned. There is no other known source engine games that have such added functionality to their executables nor did they need/rely on such functionality to work properly, this includes original Alien Swarm game. This is one game in a long time that I have seen to trigger the AVAST behaviour shield upon running it. My AVAST antivirus behaviour shield did not trigger on that file "before" the update. The update that was released on | |, replaced file | Reactivedrop.exe |. This has occurred only "after" a most recent update has been released for this game on steam not long after the games actual official release on steam. My Avast antivirus has picked up strange behaviour from this games executable upon trying to run it and ended up putting the file into quarantine.
